No, probably not. I've given a mom who was running from her abusive husband in the winter a coat, gloves and diaper bag full of clothes, diapers, formula, and snowsuit for her baby to get her through until she could get to her sister's house... and I've given a mom and baby I knew from therapy class a place to stay for a few weeks (until she got her first paycheck from her new job) when I found out they were living in their car with the heat running all night to stay warm.... but...

I think for a random homeless stranger, giving them a bed for one night wouldn't help them much long term so I'd probably be more likely to take them to SERVE, a local shelter, because they have temporary housing, food provision, a clothing closet, life skills classes, job finding assistance and tons of hook-ups in the community to really help the folks who seek their assistance. A bed for the night would be a bit of a band-aid approach I think.

My dad raised me saying "If you give a man a fish, he eats for one day. If you TEACH a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime."

I guess I've taken that to heart my whole life in my approach in raising my own children as well as how I go about helping others.

Best to you.... good question. Thought-provoking... I like that :)

That is a very trick question. I suppose it would depend on the person or people. Technically I have just done that as I'm selling a house on Monday (when I get back to Spain where i live) but the family wanted to move in this week. Normally I wouldn't have contemplated that but as it's my unexpected absense from the country which has delayed the sale we agreed to do it on this occasion (that and they paid a huge deposit!). But somehow I don' t think that's quite what you mean. I probably wouldn't allow a total stranger of the street to stay at my house, no, probably not.

I labored for some years helping people who have been homeless and found out lots approximately them. maximum of them who've been homeless for a mutually as have psychological ailment, actual accidents, a reformatory checklist, hepatitis, some HIV, some staph infections, drug adiction, relatively undesirable hygeine, weapons, often knives, and a neeed to thieve constantly to pay for drugs. almost each and every physique or them desires to work out a doctor, a dentist, a psychiatrist, an addictions professional, a nutritionist, a sturdy source of nutrition, and to get counselling and practise right into a thank you to stay conveniently in a typical abode. So, as you are able to wager, i does no longer enable anybody of them into my abode on a depressing nighttime.

No. Letting a stranger of dubious criminal, mental and substance abuse background into my home and then going to sleep strikes me as ill-advised.

Would you offer to pay for a homeless person to stay at a cheap hotel for the night? One of those $29 deals? You hand the money to the desk clerk and the person registers in his own name.

Yes i would in the true African spirit. Here in Africa we say visitors do not carry their bed with themselves whenever they go on safari. There used to be no lodgings in those olden days, hence the saying..But while appreciating the role of being a good Samaritan i would take precaution not to fall prey to the hands of treacherous characters.I can, may be ask him or her to deposit any ID on them until morning or the time of leaving as sign of good faith.Take care.

If s/he looked trustworthy and honest, yea. What I'd do is bring them home, wash their clothes, give them a nice, hot shower, and then send them out with a warm bagel and hot coffee in the morning and say "Make something of your week!"

I would if I could isolate him/her from my sleeping family. This is because he/she is a complete stranger, and I have no idea if there is any mental instability, criminal record, etc. I would be glad to give them a hot shower and good meal...
