You cannot switch off the balance for hands, if it a noise purely for asthetics, then any reasonable techy should be able to disconnect the sound source.

sounds like you've got one of those old wind up digital clocks. You need to upgrade to one with a cookoo

disconnect the speaker or piezo-electric device and replace it with a resistor of the same value.
