It has certainly helped. Exposure to race/ethnicity/sexual orientation (from within the comfort of your own living room) etc. will always serve to educate and normalise an individual's POV.
I'm not sure that we can safely say race is an issue of the past, however.

An emphatic no! TV has just locked in stereotypes. So if a person has never met a black person (and that happens a lot) they will think black people are like they see on BET and UPN. And if a person has never met a gay person, they will think of Will and Grace.
One of the hottest, most masculine men I've ever met in my life was gay. he couldn't have been more different from the personalities on Will and Grace.
Edit: For a brief time there were shows like the Cosbys, Family Matters and Living Single but that went down the drain for some reason

I think TV has shown homosexuals as well as others, in a negative and positive ways, just as they do for caucasian folks. Although there are some truths, it is at times greatly exaggerated all in the name of entertainment and excess.

different races have always been aceptable to me but the falling standards of the world have made homosexuality more acceptable to the general public not tv altough that did have a part to play in the falling standards of the worlds morality
