I had an Ipod mini and loved it until it died on me and the battery will no longer hold it's charge.

I feel reluctant to buy another one, mainly out of principle. So, what else could i buy that i'd be just as happy with?

I don't want to spend much more than £100 and a capacity of about 500 songs would be fine.

A Creative Zen V - you can get a 2GB one (about 500 songs at decent quality) for about £75, with a radio and video playback built in.

Helooo! wake up ipod is the best! And it is better than anything else. The ipod nano only costs 100 US dollars and is small and easy to carry around. The new generation ipod comes in colors. They can store photos, songs, and games. They come with a pouch to put in. The sound is really good. You can even download music on it from your fav cds. They have a nice price. On the ipod nano you can store 1000 songs, games and also photos.. I have and ipod nano and am very happy with it.You can listen to it for bout 14 hours and then put it for charging only for four hrs. It comes with the charging cord which you have to plug in the computer to charge it. Best of luck!I am sure you will like the ipod.

An Iriver 512 MB or 1 GB flash media player. Mine was on sale for like $90 and it has the most adorable mini color widescreen and it works with windows media player or as a mass storage device. It's awesome! It even clips to your belt loop

Any MP3 player you like apart from an IPod! - Try looking at the selection in Argos, there's usually one on sale. Mine doubles as a USB key, so I can carry files on it as well. And by it not being IPod, you can download files and buy tunes from anywhere you like. Plus, you'll probably be able to replace the battery!

If you like the one you've got then get a new battery. You can either send it in to a shop that does this or I have seen editorials to do it yourself. They send you the battery and tell you how to install it. Do a search for ipod servicing on the net and see. You have nothing to lose if you are willing to throw it away.

Worth a look...

My cousin has an iRiver and loves it. It has way more functions than an ipod and was cheaper too.
And personally I like the look of the new sony walkman mp3 player.
Oh, and I have a Philips. Don't get one, you have been warned.
