Spinal is quite painful, you really need a lot of strength to put up with it. First the aneathetise your back with a needle, then they attempt to insert a tiny tube between ur vertebrae, and if that doesn't work they keep trying and giving you aneasthetic needles till they get it right, with my secodn c-secton we counted the needlepoints in my back and there were 12 marks, when really there should have only been two, each time they try it is like bee sting, but one that keeps on going, when that tube goes in it is like they are inserting a metre long cable, when really it is tiny. The whole thing only lasts a few miutes but feels liek an hour. The only good part is when they finally flush the morphine thru the tube and you get a sensation like a bucket of warm water has been thrown over you. And there is a risk with spinal, sometimes a small amount of spinal fluid can leak out and travel to the brain causing very intense headaches that can last for weeks, which is why after having a spinal you should lay flat for quite a few hours afterwards and when u can get up do it very slowly. If this sounds too scary go under.

According to Hinduism, the right way is always the path of least resistence. To me, it's completely obvious from what you wrote that the universe would prefer you to get a spinal.

On a more down-to-earth note, I'm a nurse and I've worked in the OR. The spinal you're describing is an epidural, the exact same anesthesia that mom's have when giving birth. That procedure is performed all-day everyday all across the country, and when was the last time you met someone who had a complication from it?

Go with the spinal, you'll be fine. Just bring an Ipod, or something to listen to, otherwise you'll be able to hear everything, which may not be so good.

Good luck, and don't forget to pray about your fears to God.

Cool down...I know it is difficult said than done ;but let me tell you my recent experience abt spinal anasthecia.(I am still recovering from the surgery).Spinal is not that painful. They first give you one prick which numbs that portion & then onwards it is not at all painful. Only thing next day you may have a lil nausia. When spinal is possible doctors always advise you not to take risk by going in for G.A....Any ways all the best....it's a passing phase...this will pass(-:
