Sony has blown everything out of the water in the gaming industry with the PS1, 2, 3, PSP, their camera lineup is great, all quality products. Most of their products are superior to their competitors products. If they can go toe to toe with Microsoft in the console realm, Kodak and Canon in cameras, and so on, then why can't they run up against companies like Alienware in the computer end of things. Their laptops are great, I have one. They just aren't really specialized.

If they also tried Gaming PCs, they'd build products, that work against their Playstation line.

Furthermore, Gaming PCs are plagued by piracy. While it is easy to copy a game on PC (just find a crack on the net) you need to open up your Playstation to modify it with a chip to get backup copies running. Sony loses money on their consoles, so they can earn money by game licensing. With PCs, their PCs would be more expensive to be profitable, and no games could be licensed to Sony, because these games have to run also on different "Non Sony" PCs.

And if you think Sony Cameras and their Vaio Laptops are great, try a Canon Powershot or EOS digital Camera or an Apple MacBook (with Bootcamp and Windows). You will see the difference and that Sonys Products are slightly inferior to the concurring product. Especcially since you are locked in Sonys proprietary hardware with Memory Stick etc...
