Tom has lost the respect of his team so I don't know what he is going to do to get it back...Tom CAN get his team back...It is doable...I just don't know what I would do if I were him.
Matt Millen is a different story...Not only has he lost the respect of the players and fans, he has lost the respect of the whole NFL and NCAA world.
Why is that important?
#1) When NFL GM's come calling, they are looking to pick the Lion's pocket...They won't settle for anything less...As a result, they won't settle for anything LESS than picking the Lions pocket...That is why the Lions never get anything done when dealing with the other teams...The Lions should trade the second overall pick and move down...Just watch what they get for that pick.
Any other team would get a boat load of talent for a chance to draft immediate impact QB's J. Russel of LSU or B. Quinn from Notre Dame...Not the Lions...Watch what happens there!!!...If they don't trade that pick, it's a sign that other teams would only offer pocket picking trades...If they DO trade it, see for yourself if they get fair value!
History suggests that whatever the Lions do, they'll either be shortchanged or make a foolish pick!
Barry Sanders being the one exception...Just makes Barry all that much more incredible...Imagine Barry playing for the Cowboys, Rams, Steelers or San Francisco back then...Would we even be mentioning any other running back in the same sentence with Barry?...I think not!
#2) NCAA respect is important at draft time...Prospects see what happened to other draft picks and don't want to come here...As a result, they AND THEIR AGENTS (who also don't want the cheap Lions to draft their players because Detroit is a football black hole...things that go in a black hole are never seen or heard from again) put the word out about coming here, ala Eli Manning and the Chargers....The Lions would be foolish to draft them...They take players they think they can sign...Yes, they sign them and then those players go out and prove they weren't worthy of such high status.
Hopefully the Ford family will sell the Lions to someone who can hire competent football people to run the organization...Look at who the Fords have hired...Russ Thomas and Matt Millen.
The Fords have no clue and their loyalty (which I admire by the way!!!...I admire their loyalty but NOT their judgement!!!) insures the Lions will be bad until the day they give up the team.
The year BEFORE Ford bought the team in the 50's, they were NFL champions...They have literally been losers since day one of the Ford ownership and losers ever since...They are losers as far as the eye can see!
On the other hand, the Giants have shown they can win...Tom C. has been a winner and CAN be again.
I like Tom's chances over Matt who has NO chance!

I think Tom Coughlin is a good coach, but he's not been able to form a respect relationship with his team. He'd probably have more success with a college team. I think one thing that would help the Giants, and that's to bench Eli Manning. He's a fair QB, but that's not enough. NFL means "not for long" if you don't win.
Matt Millen needs to be fired. That's all there is to say on that subject.

Well it depends on whether you're a fan of those teams or not. Coughlin coming back was the right decision - if for no other reason than the fact that the right coach isn't available...right now. If he doesn't produce next season, there's no doubt he'll be canned. Millen coming back is just ridiculous. We all wish we could have such job security for doing such a poor job.

At least Tom Coughlin is making the playoffs. And with a depleted roster. As for Millen, when you are best friends with the owner its hard to get fired. Considering Ford doesn't fire anybody. Wayne Fontes coached years after he shoulda been gone.

im laughing because matt millen is as bad as a finding talent as micheal jordan when he was with the wizards. mj got fired so why shouldnt millen? coughlin has lost touch with his players and they dont either like or respect him. look at the last few weeks when they couldnt keep their mouths shut in public. they were too busy worrying about each other and the media than playing football. he didnt deseve to comeback, they needed a new coach and new life.
