who else could he have gone after?
Ok more seriously; the Jews were and still are the most successful business people on earth. this success got in to his nerves. he could not understand how the 'superior race' could be outdone in their own country by the jews. so he unleashed terror on them. Remember the case of black athlete Jesse Owens?

In the times that Hitler grew up in Austria, after the WW1 the situation as far as we are talkin about economy and political changes was desperate. Austria had been separated in many ethnical parts. In the place were he had been borned the situation was not so complicated. But after he became an adult and visited Vienna, he saw all the system of govermental actions and decisions going to corruption because of the seperated parts of people in the whole country. He started attempting the political council in Vienna and he realized that that situation should stop. Until then the only information about the political stance of the goverment and the actions that it was taking, he was receiving from the newspapers. After he tried to realize the real situation and trying to find on his own what the problem was, he found out that the owners of the newspapers were rich businessmen who were Jews. So he thought that they were the problem and he tried to take them out. Furthermore Jews were trying to hide between the political crisis and the problems that occured in the German Empire so he thought that if he could take them out not only Germany would have taken back all the glory that had been lost in war but also that it could become stronger and get united with Austria and other countries where thousands of germans lived. Furthermore we have to take under our consideration that in germany many hundreds of thousands of people came to work and find a better way of live. So many of the german jobs in industries and the local market were occupied by Jews, Polish, Russians etc. So as he was thinking of the rotten situation he decided that the problem was caused by the Jews who were too many and too rich. Moreover consider that Jews were the people that owned theatres and ran businneses that entertained people. His opinion was that they were hypnotizong peoples minds and destroying culture and social identification..
In summary Hitler went after the Jews because they were an easy Target as we can admitt. He thought they were a stain in the whiteness of the German-Arrian tribe that should rule the whole world. That was a simple thought of ethnicism and sovinism. If you want to learn more try reading two excellent books by Ian Kershaw that summarize the actions and the whole life of Adolf Hitler. The first one is called Hubris and the second one Nemesis. They provide so many information that they must be the better of the whole kind according to the New York Times.
Hope I have helped!

He was using them as a scapegoat to rise to power.
He blamed them (jews were migrant workers like Mexicans are in the U.S) for taking the jobs of German's and being the root cause of socio-economical hardships in Germany at that time.

He had to pick/rule over on somebody to feel good about himself. No self confidence.
Probably not of same religion. I think a Jew must of pissed him off a long time ago, prior to being elected. Now they Jews paid up.
Maybe they were diseased immoral people to him and his beliefs. His life rules only mattered.
