Actually it has more to do with body language. This is very hard to explain, and unfortunately its hard not to use some generalities. I have known plenty of gay men who simply did not care about how they presented themselves to others, but that is not usually the case. Straight men are somewhat oblivious to how they look, especially the details. While they may be well groomed and presentable, its not usually so detail oriented, unless they have a woman in their life to do it for them. Its not about being feminine or masculine, its about how much self knowledge a gay man usually has about himself and how he presents that. Men are very visual, and my experience has been that gay men just have a very calculated way of communicating (physical and non physical), that straight men just don't get.
Lesbians for the most part are the same, however it has been my experience that many lesbians are extremely guarded in their physical and non physical communications publicly.
I've been blessed with good observational skills all my life, I've always been right about anyone I've met, sometimes even before they are aware themselves. I also really am glad that the generation of my children, in their 20's, are more open about themselves.
Forgive the generalities, as in everything, not everyone presents themselves in the same way.

I don't listen to a lot of the stereotypical music choices that gay men have been stigmatized as always being interested in.I like Eminem and some hip hop.I do care about my hygiene but am not overly worried about which way my hair is styled. My hobbies include watching TV and movies, camping, hunting, video games, travel, and going to the beach.
Did that answer your question?

Well, you can't tell based on some signs alone. But some guys "flame", and use gay icons and gay stereotypes to indirectly state that they are gay. If you meet a man in tight pink t-shirt that says "I love Cher" and he mentions that he loves using vanilla-scented hand-creme, he probably wants you to think he's gay by putting stereotypically gay behavior on display. But there are some guys who happen to have the same hobbies and mannerisms, and are anything but gay! So in short, a guy might try to send signs, but you never really know until he tells you.

Saying blah, blah, blah is not going to help you speak better English. Either say what you mean, or, if you are through, put a period at the end of the sentence.

Stereotypes are bunch of crap. If you saw me or my boyfriend you wouldn't be able to tell we were gay
