Populations:-
Spain 44,000,000
France 60,000,000
China 1,400,000,000
On market potential I think China just passed the other 2 for a gold medal.
All have widespread world use, notably Spanish in some South American countries such as Mexico, French in Canada and former African colonies and Chinese worldwide.
By Chinese I presume we are refering to Mandarin, the universal language of education, business and the upper class as well as being the used in much of the countryside and in Taiwan.
As an individual you only need enough work to keep one person employed and all 3 languages should easily do that but in terms of worldwide use China has it and it is the fastest growing and most agressive exporting market in the world at this time.
If you are from an English speaking country you will be at an advantage to the vast majority of the population with any of these 3 as a second language.

Well, its definitely not French. I send my kids to a school that teaches in English and Mandarin. My eldest just started a third language this year, Spanish. I think these are the three most important languages in the world: English, Mandarin and Spanish . . . and in that order too. Even though it is harder, start with Mandarin first, while you are still young. Spanish is easier to learn and you can do it later.

French is pretty easy, there are so many derivatives in English that it is pretty easy to remember. Future wise, I would go for Chinese, the language of the future, we should all be picking some of it up.

I think French and Spanish because they travel very widely and you could teach students American English.T.E.F.L.employ teachers to train these students.Teaching English As A Foreign Language. If you are multilingual it is a lot easier to teach, but you can do this without as well.Contact tefl lindsay

well spanish is more useful since more countries speak spanish but chinese may also be useful because there is a lot of business out there. i guess it all depends on what you want and how hard you want to learn. i know learning chinese is hard because they have a different alphabet and their caligraphy is extremely difficult in my opinion.
for me personally, i would take spanish.
