Can someone tell me if I did this right? I got 36 - 15 = 21

Just substitute. 3(3)(4) - 5(3)
That means 3x3x4 - 5x3
Make sure you do the multiplying before the subtracting, because you must follow the Orders of Opperation!
That comes to 36 - 15
Meaning the answer is 21!

36 - 15 =

it should be 21

That's correct. Because first you have to substitute for X and Y, which gives you 3(3)(4) - 5(3). Then you have to multiply, and then subtract, as so.

3 times 3 is 9 times 4 is 36. 5 times 3 is 15. 36-15=21.
