it all depends on where you are at in the United States you may be admitted to a club at 18 but you will not get a stamp on your hand which would signify you are at least 21 . In Mexico the legal drinking age is 18.

At 18 you can go into a bar, most places will either tag you or stamp you, but you cannot drink or buy a drink until the age of 21.

I have been to some places where they have do not allow anyone under the age of 21 in the bar, just because they serve alcohol and its to difficult to control the 18 to 21 drinking.

Although I live in New Orleans, it seems like if you look like 18 they let you in the bar.. and in most instances, they seem to be drinking too... not that its right, but it happens.

edit: ok.. so I may be wrong... again I live in New Orleans! Now I'm confused and I want to know the answer!

You can go into a bar at any age with an adult until I believe 9pm. You cant actually sit at a bar until 21. I think you can stay later then 9 if you are married to someone over 21 who is with you, but you cant stay til closing.

people who're 21 can't contain themselves whilst they drink, what makes you think of an 18 year previous is gonna have the brains to contain themselves. it is going to easily advise greater deaths on the highways. I bear in mind whilst Wyoming's ingesting age replaced into 19 (1984) and each and all the states have been already 21. the government threatened to do away with hundreds of thousands of greenbacks in street restoration if Wyoming did no longer up the age. They did. i replaced right into a bartender at that component and it actually replaced over nighttime. And so did the DUIs and motor vehicle injuries. i understand an excellent sort of underage young infants drink, yet making it criminal ought to no longer remedy something. good ballot with tips from the way.

You can sit at a bar at any age, but the owners dont even HAVE to let you in. As for drinking, which I suspect is more what you really want to know....

The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 required all states to raise their minimum purchase and public possession of alcohol age to 21. States that did not comply faced a reduction in highway funds under the Federal Highway Aid Act. The U.S. Department of Transportation has determined that all states are in compliance with this act. The national law specifically prohibits purchase and public possession of alcoholic beverages. It does not prohibit persons under 21 (also called youth or minors) from drinking. The term "public possession" is strictly defined and does not apply to possession for the following:

An established religious purpose, when accompanied by a parent, spouse or legal guardian age 21 or older
Medical purposes when prescribed or administered by a licensed physician, pharmacist, dentist, nurse, hospital or medical institution
In private clubs or establishments
In the course of lawful employment by a duly licensed manufacturer, wholesaler or retailer.” 1 (Emphasis in original. Conspicuously not emphasized is the significant fact that “the law does not prohibit persons under 21 (also called youth or minors) from drinking.”)

Some states you can be 18. Most of them now you have to be 21 just to sit at the bar. If you're underage you'll have to sit at a table.
