The IAU draft resolution recognises eight "classical" planets - Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune - three "plutons" - Pluto, Charon and UB313 - and the asteroid Ceres.

There are now considered to be 8 planets in our solar system, but the number of known planets is now close to 200 and more are being discovered all the time.

Well, 8. Since the International Astronomical Union revised the definition of planet, Pluto no longer counts. ;)

I don't think theres twelve. But heres a good way to remember the nine planets. My very elegant mother just sat upon nine porcipines. grade school stuff.

Maybe you are referring to Exoplanets? But when i take them into account, there are much more than twelve.

And pluto has been demoted. It's not a planet anymore.
