Then... you succeeded in failing AND in the same time you failed to fail.

:)

If the original intention was to fail and you failed on that count by succeeding then in an obvious way you will have failed, by not achieving what you set out to do.

BUT...

If the success brings something good to your life that outweighs what you would have achieved with by failing then you have succeeded in achieving more.

Maybe an example?

A woman comes home to find her husband in bed with another woman. She packs her bags and leaves, vowing to never be with another man to avoid being hurt like that again.

Several years later she meets a guy at work and their friendship grows and before long she is head over heels in love and in a new and exciting relationship.

She has failed at her pledge not to find love again but she is probably more successful for failing.....as long as he treats her right.

Some time ago I failed a course (intentionally) to avoid going overseas. The outcome was I still had to go away, therefore I succeeded in failing but failed to succeed.
"Make sense"??

Probably, but if at first you don't succeed, hide all evidence of ever trying.

No it is because secretly you wanted to succeed but didn't want to feel a prat if you didn't, reverse psychology that's all.

Depends which one comes first.

I'm an optimist so i'd say you failed first but then you suceeded.
