the cabinet
why else do you think that the same things happen no matter whether its Labour, Conservitive etc in charge.
everything goes to a vote before it can be passed and the majorty wins whether the decision is right or not.
nothing will change in this country while ever we have lords and money men in the house and in charge of this country... they all want to keep there money and let us hard workers stay hard working so we dont notice how much were gettin ripped off by them while they sit there snoozing and drinking booze waitinting to say yeah or nay.... when half of them didnt even listen to the question in the fist place.

Well, the cabinet is the top level of government. A few years ago I would have said the civil service runs the country but that is no longer true. Margaret Thatcher started the move towards using political advisers alongside civil servants and it has grown much worse under Tony Blair.
The bottom line is that the Prime Minister gets to choose the cabinet. Ministers have considerable power to run their departments, and that power is increasingly being taken from Parliament. This country has lost the scrutiny it once had from a strong Parliament. Now, decisions are taken by people close to the Prime Minister, whether they be cabinet ministers or appointed advisers.

The cabinet system disappeared with Thatcher, now we are run by a set of spin doctors. Blair hasent changed it, in fact its got worse. So the simple answer, we arent ruled by a government or a cabinet, but a set of hiped up grab ons. Who curry favour, who ever is in charge. And spin out whatever they think we will swollow. Why do they rule the country?? ok, we voted in a labour government. but what we got was a president elect. not so much a government but a mini dictator, not easy reading but true.

I would say that the media runs this country. With Rupert murdoch being the owner of the worlds biggest news agency, which in turn owns the sun and the times newspaper in the uk. What we see and hear about politics is vastly controlled and manipulated to get us to think a certain way. Even though a lot of people know the papers print rubbish, they still tend to believe certain things simply because it was printed or on the news. The media influence is enormous and is powerful enough to end a politicians career and start one.
The country is run by the person who has the ability to influence public perception and attitude.
It has been known that Prime Ministers have been so worried about the media influence on their careers that they would contact Mr murdoch prior to making a decision to make sure they would have his support.
Its all a conspiracy, the people 'in power' are the ones that have the least power really.

The cabinet is part of the Gov. Did you mean the prime minister or the cabinet?
The system is much like ours. The Prime Mimister is like our president and the cabinet is like our Senate/congress. As to who runs the country you could say the P. M. Just the same as the PRESIDENT runs the US but both have a check and balance system via the congress or cabinet.

Try the Royal family. Theirs is a limited monarchy, but it is still a monarchy. Queen Elizabeth has the power of the veto. Anything she does not like, she nixes it.
