Damn are all these mac users from the US or what?
Right lets set the records straight.
PC's are the daddy! End of conversation. Bring up a point and there the PC beats it in every situation and if it doesn't in one its because of software.
Most macs nowadays are under the hood just PC's, chips, video cards and memory are all "borrowed" from PC innovation over the years.
PC's are cheaper and more customisable thus more value you'll spend less on one from day one and when it comes to upgrade time again you've spent less so ROI is far greater.
Mac users stop pretending to be posh and get a PC! Oh actually ignore that you already have one LOL!:D

Star has a very good point. Take a look at a few of these.
This has been an ongoing battle for a long time. PC users find their computer to be a lot more customizable, professional, and powerful. Mac users find their computers to be very accessible, visually impressive, and faster.
Lets break it apart.
The PC can be upgraded or even downgraded to your own liking. PCs are highly customizable when it comes to software, but it doesn't stop at hardware. The PC used to be built on a command prompt called DOS, but is now called MS-DOS. PC has a lot more support for applications since is the most commonly used computer.
Onto Macs:
The mac is easy to use and has a lot of powerful programs. Most of these programs are for media production which should charm any film producer, music producer, or artist out there. Macs have a very user-friendly desktop design which makes it easy to navigate. The look is very professional, but at heart the Mac is a kid (with a good heart at that!)
I won't say whether I like PC or Mac better on this question, so you make your own decision.

It's largely a matter of personal preference.
There aren't many Apple-only shops so pure Mac IT jobs are hard to come by. But there are many places that have a few Macs and it's often hard to find Mac experts to work with them.
If you're going into IT I'd suggest getting a Mac to become familiar with the platform, but expect most jobs to be in PC shops.

It depends on what you are doing which is better. That's it in a nutshell. These days though, the Mac can do most everything the PC can do, and in a lot of applications it surpasses it.
IMHO the PC is best for boring things like word processing and running chat programs. The Mac is better if you are going to do anything with graphics.
Good luck and welcome to the IT pool LOL

Of the two I would prefer a mac, As a domestic user with light needs (e-mail, documents, the odd bit of watching youtube rubbish) If I was to buy a computer it would be a mac.
If your looking at a job though, there is more roles within PC technology because of its composite nature and upgradability.
However less people learn macs so you have more demand

If you need Mac experience for work then buy a Mac and gain the experience.
As for which is better, it really depends on what you want to do. First decide what you want to do, then find the software that best does the job and then look for the computer that runs that software. The Mac is widely preferred for the visual arts, but the PC is the better games machine. For anything in between these extremes the PC, by which we really mean Windows, is better supported. However, a free download for the Mac called Boot Camp enables Windows to be installed on the Mac (without replacing the Mac OS). A Mac with Windows would give you the best of both worlds. (It would be like having a BetaMax machine that also plays VHS.)

The average Mac user will tell you Macs are better.
The average PC user will tell you PCs are better.
An expert in IT will use both for different applications.
If you're used to PCs already and you're moving into IT, it certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to get some Mac experience under your belt.

buy a PC - the home computer industry is PC and windows orientated.
Buy a mac for high end design work, slightly more stability or to look cool while surfing the web or sending email (though looks come at a price).
for cheap and reliable, buy a PC and learn Ubuntu or SUSE Linux. The stability of a mac with the price of a PC.

I'd had pc after pc, then bought a mac last year and can't see myself ever going back - they are just so quick, reliable and look great. You can even run windows on a mac now, so its win win!

Macs can run Windows XP natively. This means you can get your Mac experience and have your Windows too. There's a ton of sites out there to tell you how Mac OS X is better than Windows, so I'm not even going to bother trying to tell you. You're just nervous. It's your first Mac. You know you want one. No one accidentally buys a Mac.
