I tried reformatting my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP. The harddrive will partition and format just fine, but when the XP installation files try to install in the c:\windows directory, some of them won't copy over to the hard drive, I don't want to skip any of the set up files, even if you are allowed to skip and continue. Plus, I tried a different CDROM drive, and a different XP installation disk with the same results. Should I just junk my hard drive, or could it be another problem that I'm overlooking?

I had a similar problem with a clean install after a crash ... turned out the crash partially took out a stick of RAM as well ... after replacing the ram all was good
It's worth a try

I had the same experience with my computer once with the worm. My WIN32 had to be removed and replaced. It was the only way to fix the problem with reloading XP. I have a friend who is a techie who knew how to do that for me.
