Sufism? It's an ancient branch of Islam (some call it the Zen of Islam), some say it may even predate it although it's not a widely supported theory.
Sufism is all about unity. They belive that there is a single underlying Truth and Reality to which all things are directly connected. A Sufi aims to free himself of any ideas contradictory to this divine unity, including the self, as a representation of the dualtiy of man. Good is seen as a formless component piece of every element of reality.
Sufism delas in poetry and metaphore designed to enhance the awareness and provoke thought. They believe that each Sufi must make a personal push to learn and understand, but highly encourage the teaching of the subject in groups.

Sufis or "Muslim Saints" were those people who migrated to the subcontinent from mainly Bokhara ( Southern Russia which was a seat of Muslim learning in those days)from the 8th Century BC onwards, these religious Scholars found that in Subcontinent it was difficult to attract natives towards Islam because those native people were mainly Hindus & Poetry, Music and Dance was a part in their religion, since these practices were unfounded in simple Islamic teachings therefore some Sufis added these flavors in practice (the Poetry by Sufis was mainly in Praise of Allah or his last Prophet PBUH) which attracted people and these natives started converting to Islam quickly, Singing of "Qawali" and "Sufi Poetry" are part of this so called "Sufiism", Amir Khosro was founder of Qawali and Poetry in Persian as well as local language followed by many others and last but not the least one of them being Khawaja Ghulam Fareed of Mithan Kot in South Punjab (1838-1902), this whole practice which provided colour is called "Sufism".
