Could be lots of reasons apart from what you think. He could have done it for a dare even. It used to be a common thing for boys to hug and walk with their arm around the others shoulders, but since homosexuality had become more out in the open and feared it isn't seen so much which is a shame, mateship is a dying institution because of fear. Gay people aren't all bad you know, even if he is gay and likes you why not take it as a compliment, he's not going to do anything. Usually it's the radicals in any culture that cause problems and the same goes for gay radicals

It was probably just a joke or dare. I think people here might be blowing this out of proportion, an unexpected public hug is a fairly unusual way to say I love you, no matter how in touch with your emotions you are :)
And being weirded out doesn't mean you're not secure in your sexualtiy. If someone (male or female), came up and hugged me out of the blue, I'd have some questions aswell.

he probably just feels comfortable to give a friendly hug without being gay , because at school it would look like that, but actually the gay boy would not hug another boy because it would highlight him for bullies , so the boy that does give you a hug is probably completly sure of himself that he like the ladies and not the willies, lol, just make a joke of it , come on man giv'us a hug, lol , good friends
not gay , coz the gay wouldnt hug u.

This is century 21 and we are allowed to be who we really are. He's obviously in touch with his emotions and not affraid to show them. Any way, even if he is gay, don't hold it against him.
We, as a society are forever becoming more solitary. You can't walk down a street these days without half of the population with earphones in both ears or txting on a mobile etc.
we need to communicate more with each other person to person, face to face and this is probably what this guy is doing.

I don't think you can infer he's gay just because of a hug. In parts of the middle east, it's very common for straight men to hug, hold hands, and even kiss each other. Your friend might be gay, but he might also be from a very affectionate household.

If he's popular he's gay. (my popular opinion)
You are so luckeee. I love to be hugged by popular guys cuz they are usually really super hot with lots of muscles and nice jeans and walk cool and have soft wavy hair that blows in the easterly winds of Kansas or Arkansas. I'm so totally jealous and stuff.

Sounds like you are the one who's insecure about sexuality. Is it that you WANT him to be gay? Perhaps he just thinks your a good mate. Males hug quite often: when a team scores, when we haven't seen each other for a while etc.

First ....why are you looking at him. Are you hoping he is gay? One hug does not make you gay. He may be a part of a culture that hugs.
