i was looking at dell, but that one is too big. I need something i can easily carry in a backpack

im looking at the Inspiron 640m/E1405 or the 710m

None of the laptops you listed are really widescreen. They are wider than their competition but don't display the full widescreen image.

All monitors (TV and computer) are measured diagonally so the number sounds bigger than measuring width or height. Normal display is 4:3 (width:height), widescreen is 16:9, or 33% wider. You can use this math to determine if any monitor is widescreen or not.
