Most of India has a limited season in a year when it rains - primarily between June and September. In this season, rain clouds are carried in from the Indian Ocean by a seasonal wind called 'monsoon'. The wind is in turn depended on oceanic currents and more scientific stuff etc,.. The wind travels upwards into India from South-West direction and so, it is occasionally called South West monsoons.

Hello,
It is the season when it rains (pours water from the clouds in the sky :-) ). There are two monsoons, one is the South - West monsoon which comes from the South West as the name suggests and covers the western coast of India and the Central and Northern parts of India. It starts sometime in June and extends up to September - October. There is also the North-East monsoon which covers the Eastern Coast of India. It starts sometimes in November and continues till January.

Monsoon refers to the Rainy Season in India.
A monsoon is a wind pattern that reverses direction with the seasons. The term was originally applied to seasonal winds in the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea. The word is also used more specifically for the season in which this wind blows from the southwest in India and adjacent areas that is characterized by very heavy rainfall, and especially, for the rainfall associated with this wind.
The southwest monsoon is generally expected to begin around the middle of June and dies down by September.

Monsoon in western part of India is very rigourous which is caused due to plenty of number of Cyclone formation happens during the June to Septmber in west and November and December in east. On an average West india especially the Konkan Area receives about 2000 to 3000 mm rain in this period which is around 1000 to 1500 mm in a month.
But other parts of the country receives relatively lesser rain. Thar Desert in Rajsthan in NW India receives only about 10 to 50 mm rain in year.
In general During June to Sep it is better to avoid all western India and Nov and December the southern part of India
