Egg boxes - although cheap option these are unsightly (I use these in my Music studio only- the other option is to get ceiling board and batten them to the wall - therefore building a "false" wall that should insulate most of the noise on that side of the building - you can then decorate as you want and looks good cosmetically

Visit http://www.soundstop.co.uk and check out their basic wall sollutions. Not "Cheap" but amazing value for the reduction in noise - read some of the testemonials to get an idea of what it can do. Easily DIY -able sollutions and a lot less time consuming (and less damaging to animals) than egg cartons!

cork tiles works. my little sister used to throw so many tantrums so mum cork tiled her walls and painted over them , so when she was sent to her room it wasnt as loud, and its still there now and she's older and plays her music its a very good soundproofing and super cheap

Foam mattresses work well so do egg cartons. Neither look very nice though. Cork tiles is the answer but may be costly. How about sticking some blu-tac in your ears?

A layer of polstyrene, like the sheets tv's come paced in, and then egg boxes on top. You can buy the polystyrene in a craft shop and some DIY shops sell it too.

I heard that the cardboard egg boxes are good for sound proofing. Have to get loads and stick them to the walls. You could get yourself a pair of ear plugs or a personal cd player or Ipod.

Get a large bucket, and cut it in half vertically. Put that over your head when you lay down and just throw a heavy blanket over it.
Now there's no sound, you didnt mess up your wall with egg cartons and you didnt spend a penny.

Just make sure its not the same bucket you used to clean the toilet.
