Right click on the Zonealarm icon in your taskbar and click Shutdown Zonealarm it will give you a warning asking you if you want to.

It will run along side but there is little point to running the two of them. I always find that external programs like zone alarm cause a general slowdown my computer. Obviously for things to make there way onto your computer it will take slightly longer because there is an extra process. If you have got an older computer you may find this. Zone alarm is likely to be a more comprehensive firewall in comparison to windows version contrary to Microsoft's current operating systems boasts which claim "the most secure system ever". Computing is all about trial and error. Try running the two together. If you start to receive alot of error prompts or if they seem to clash then turn off the windows firewall and see how it runs. People should always remember that the best way to prevent problems is to be mindful of the websites you visit. Be wary of automatic links and downloads and never allow anything to upload onto your computer unless you expected it.

How To Disable Zone Alarm

Best bet is to de-install it. ControlPanel>Add/Remove Programs

Way too many bugs and incompatibilities with VPN's, File Sharing and HotSynch's via network. Conflicts with other AV/AS services and sometimes goes ballistic with your network hardware. Perhaps a newer version will be better, but now it is more of a bother than the safety it provides. (IMHO)
