How many of you "heard" a song say something, only to find out later you were grossly mistaken?
For example: Jimi Hendrix' song "Purple Haze:"
I heard: "Scuse me,
While I kiss this guy."
He actually said: "'Scuse me / While I kiss the sky.

Or the Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds:"
I heard: "The girl with colitis goes by."
They actually said: "The girl with kalidascope eyes."

Any one else have this happen?

I offered $10- to anyone at this party (about 30 ppl) who could tell me the lyrics to the song "The Israelite". The room got real quiet as I played the record, everyone listening hard as they could, so they could get my money. As soon as the first verse finished the place erupted in laughter cuz you can only make out a few words to the impossible task.

But the song "Sunshine Superman" (I think) by "Donovan" has a line that says, "Electrical bananna ... " and I always thought it said, "Elect Trico Bananna ..." which made about as much sense as the real lyrics.

Another song that I believe was sung intentionally to make you misunderstand had lyrics ... "Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy, a kid will eat ivy too, wouldn't you?"
I thought the lyrics (although this doesn't make much sense) were, "Marzie (like a nickname for Mary) dotes and Dozie dotes and little Lambzie Divy, a Kittlie Divy do, wouldn't you?"

When I learned of the real lyrics, many yrs later, it was like having solved one of the world's great mysteries.

A lot of people make mistakes. I've had that happen and everyone I know has. Some people will sing the wrong words in front of me and I want to correct them but, don't want to hurt their feelings. I had a friend, when she was little there was a song that said "Raise A Little H*ll" and she thought it said, Raise A Little Owl.

Yeah.

The words: "I fought the law and the law won."
I thought: "I caught the ball and they all run." (Of course, I was like 6 at the time)

The words: "Give me the beat boys and free my soul."
I thought: "Give me the Beach Boys and free my soul."
