I have hyperemesis, confirmed yesterday by the doc and was given motion sickness tablets which actually have helped me a little bit, I was wondering if any of you mums have been through this, what your experiences were adn how long before yours settled down? This is my first pregnancy....

I did and so did my daughters. I got over it at four months. Before then, I was unable to keep anything down except lemonade and cornflakes (without milk). I did not have any pills and I am glad I did not, because it was at the time when one of the anti-sickness pills (Thalidomide) caused malformations in babies. One of my daughters was continuously ill with it throughout her pregnancy and she had to have injections to keep it under control because she was so badly affected. Another daughter had to have pills like you do, and it settled at five months.(Their children were and are fine, and modern tablets have been stringently tested because of the Thalidomide disaster to avoid a repetition).
There is a new pill on the market in America, which is quite expensive, but which is marvellously effective. I do not know whether it is available on th NHS in Britain. Your doctor would know. Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy.Things will look up and you will feel better. What is more, you will forget about the worse when you have your baby in your arms.

I've had it in varying degrees with my 3 pregnancies. It's awful & torturous. I get very unwell 24/7 & usually need admitting to hospital for rehydration. My first pregnancy it was overy by week 12, second pregnancy it was over by week 14 & third pregnancy i'd lost 10kg from my prepregnancy weight before i hit 20 weeks & it lasted for 22 weeks & settled mostly until the birth, although i still had bouts of nausea & vomiting at times. All babies were born healthy & of good weights (between 8-10pounds) so i guess it wasn't harmful to them. I've never really found anything that helps apart from soda water with freshly squeezed lemon & dry toast or hot chips. I wish you all the best & hope that it eases off by the start of your second trimester.
