The purpose of a persuasive essay is to convince the reader of a controversial point of view. Therefore, the writer must take a stand on an issue and use evidence to back his or her stance.

1. The first step you must take as a writer is to gather evidence that supports your stance on the topic.

2. The writer must have a thesis statement in the introduction of the essay. The thesis statement is a sentence or two about what you are going to discuss in the essay. The thesis statement in a persuasive essay is not the topic of your essay but your stance on the topic of your of your essay.

3. The body paragraphs should contain the reasons why you have chosen your point of view and why the reader should agree with your point of view. Only discuss items (arguments) that support your topic. Begin each paragraph with a topic sentence and develop the supporting arguments in the paragraph. When you have finished one argument, move on to another paragraph and a new argument, until you have covered all of your arguments.

4. In the concluding paragraph, you should briefly reemphasize why you have taken the stance and why the reader should agree. This is a restatement of the thesis and major arguments, without providing new information.

Do you just need to make a list? I hope so, these would sound trite if you used them all in one essay.

In the Beginning, Then, Lastly

Also, Secondly is a word, but Fristly and Thridly are not...

this is a good link. Good luck. BTW - I think this is a stupid exercise :)
