Bush. Jr. never did listen to Uncle Jim either, did he?
"Even if Hussein were captured and his regime toppled, U.S. forces would still have been confronted with the specter of a military occupation of indefinite duration to pacify the country and sustain a new government in power. Removing him from power might well have plunged Iraq into civil war, sucking U.S. forces in to preserve order. Had we elected to march on Baghdad, our forces might still be there.''
- former Secretary of State James Baker, 1996

Locutus - you are like so many others of your ilk. Never mind that these guys know what they are talking about. If you dissagree with them, you toss them to the side. Luckily the American public is finally waking up to you ignorant, bigoted attitudes and you are being marginalized. That's what really bugs people like you.

Seems so prophetic, but I guess Dumya surrounded himself with "yes" men while his father used intelligent people who know what they were talking about.

You people just are not understanding what is going on in the world. The Arabs and Persians are telling you but you don't listen. We are in the early stages of a new Muslim conquest period. It is not anchored in any one nation but spread through all. They consider Iraq to be the place where the twelfth Imam will establish the new caliphate. We need to establish and maintain a stable democracy in that country so that they do not self fulfill their prophecy or you will see violence on a scale you have only read about.
Baker is a washed up politician who is trying to create a legacy. He picked the popular horse and bet on it.The horse never even made the race.

You are entirely correct. Thousands of people in 2003 were writing letters and emails to the Government here in the UK and over there in the US to try to stop this lunatic invasion that we knew at the time was based entirely on lies.
We warned that what we see now in Iraq would happen, but were dismissed as defeatists and unpatriotic. or worse, we were called liberals. The people who opposed the war were a complete mix of people from left and right, rich and poor, all races and sexual orientations. In fact the only unifying characteristsic was a knowledge that this war was based on lies and could not be justified under international law.
I am a Conservative and have been totally against this war from the beginning, it was based on lies, if you have to lie to justify a war, then the war is not just! it's very simple really. If a war is just, then it needs no lies to support it, it is self evidently just.
Sometimes war is necessary, as a Conservative, I know that you pay for the proper troops, equip them properly and take good care to give them the very best chance of victory. You have a definable plan, a realistic and achievable strategy which is broken down into a logical set of tactics. You go in with enough power to do the job, and after the war phase, the rebuilding phase begins in ernest. There was a moment of opportunity where we could have created a paeceful and allied Iraq. But the Administration blew it by being ignorant and stupid. By treating ordinary Iraqis like terrorists, instead of citizens. By stealing 20 Billion of the reconstruction aid money, by not understanding the difference between Sunni and Shia.
In fact the sectarian carnage may have been deliberately intensified by the west, as cases come to light of people being stopped at checkpoints, having their driving licenses taken and then being taken in for questioning, they are later released and told to drive to another police station to collect their licences. Only occasionally, these people have not driven straight to the police station, as their cars where handling strangely. Upon closer inspection, the drivers have discovered that their cars have been loaded with large amounts of explosive by the Western forces that had detained them.
How many suicide bombings of police stations in Iraq were not anything of the sort? Is the west pursuing a deliberate policy of divide and Conquer?
Yes sometimes war is necessary, but this one was NOT. It was a war of choice based on lies. It was a maniac's ego trip run amoc, it was Captain Ahabs last mistake. An arrogant and deluded President running out of ideas and time is taking another desparate roll of the dice.
The Americans have blown it big time and will lose in Iraq, but dress up the defeat as a new kind of victory.

And the Alternative was to leave him to his own devices, Continue killing Kurds, Raping Women and building an army that would again threaten the region. After Gulf One ( a UN action) He was ever more determined to get Israel into an action. His last purchases were based on better delivery systems to target Israel and destabilize the region. You are right We never needed to go to Iraq , they and there ilk were more interested in coming here anyway.
Better to run off the cliff than to beg for mercy and get pushed off anyway..... See you at the Bottom Jon Boy..............
