I was once told, if you think your mad your most likely not, depression creeps up on you (believe me I've suffered). In the words of Radiohead song Just (about depression) "Creeps like a comet suckers you but not your friends" my advice would be to confide in friends and family about your worries,a problem shared and all that, if they care enough they will give you an honest answer and a much better and accurate one than you'll ever receive on here. Mood swings are a classic sign,maybe when you are in a manic state.{high}.you may be extremely extrovert,go on spending sprees,or be extremely friendly..When in a depressive state,{low}you will feel rough may not have the energy to even wash and look after yourself,this is the worst time,suicidal thoughts,etc talk the doctor ,get as much info as you can,DONT TRY TO HIDE IT talk to family and friends they need reassuring that you are not off your trolley you will always come through it.good luck

Hmm how hard would it have been to do a search for "manic depressive"? i bet the info you get from doing that will be alot more helpful than anything anyone is going to say here...

mania is the opposite of depression

a manic depressive goes through periods of depression and mania

it's also called bipolar
