for during pregnancy or the baby might get dark spots in his face or body. I truly don't believe but don't want to take any risk. Does it have any medical explanation?

My family is originally from Italy and there is an old Italian Wives Tale that says, in short, a baby is born with a birth mark in the shape of whatever his/her mother was craving while pregnant, but didn't satisfy that craving for. Example, a strawberry shaped/colored birth mark meant Mom was craving strawberries but didn't eat them.

It's just an old wives tale that seems to be pervasive throughout many different cultures (which is actually kinda cool!).

In Asia people believe this because if the mother going to be gets whatever she's craving for, she will be happy. And a happy mother believed to give birth to a healthy child.

No scientific basis at all. My mother-in law believed this although she is not from Mauritius. I used it to torture my husband when i was pregnant. Although he did not believe it, whenever his mother was around I'd say "boy, I really want some strawberry ice cream" His mother would then nag him until he went out and got it for me.
