I dunno if this seems a stupid question - but my mum recently started Chemotherapy, and the doctor told us it was a drug designed to poison certain cells, then I got to think and realised the alcohol is a drug and also a poison, and there are several other examples - so are all drugs poison and all poisons drugs, or is there a difference between the two, and if so what? Is it just that a drug is seen as having some benefit where as a poison is not?

A drug can be a poison if it is taken incorrectly, in excessive amounts, or with incompatible medication or food. In that case, the medication IS a poison. It's sort of like a weed versus a plant - a weed it just a plant for which nobody has found a use; a poison is just a medication which is mis-used.

all drugs are poisons. poison affect chemical balance's at a molecular level.

As such they can change the way cells in our body act or have a detremental effect upon them. Drugs are only good for you if you have a specific illness.

i.e taking drugs for adhd sufferers if you dont have adhd can actually make you act as if you do have adhd. But if you already have it, the drug reverses the effect.

drugs used to attack cancer cells, they have an overall detremental effect on your body, but if you have cancer, the benefit of the drug also killing cancer cells is worth the side effects.

hope this helps

Chemotherapy is a drug that poisons cancer cells. If the person doesn't take the drug the person will die quicker and usually more painful!@~
