That's because there is no real magic in Wicca or any other area of the occult. It doesn't work. Read about the lives of famous occultists:

http://usminc.org/famous.html

Then decide if it "works". If you want to wind up broke and
forgotten, go for it!

Aleister Crowley's followers idolize him because he supposedly had power over women. The truth is he was rich and goodlooking, and that never hurts with the ladies! He mostly got mentally unstable women from the sounds of things (most went insane or commited suicide), and it's no trick to pick up unstable women.

If there is any truth to the old saying "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.", that truth is found in the occult, and Wicca in
particular. Silver Ravenwolf has written close to a dozen books on the subject of "The Craft", and claims she has been studying it since about 1969, which is almost as long as I’ve been alive. She has written a book on how to cast money spells, and includes a chapter on how to do so in her Teen Witch book. But the thing is, she doesn't particularly sound all that prosperous herself. Ravenwolf writes,

" For years I couldn't afford to go to a hair stylist (still can't, it's
shop and chop for me). I got pretty good at stying my own hair from looking at magazine pictures" [SOURCE: Teen Witch, Llewellyn Publications, 2003 edition, page 145]

OK, she so rich she can't go to the hairdresser. Hey, get me a copy of that Prosperity Spell book! And guess what, they can't make love spells work either. You may have gotten the impression witchcraft works from shows like "Charmed" and "Buffy", but they don't. It's fiction! There are no love spells, even though self-deluded people will tell you otherwise.

Silver Ravenwolf seems to have inadvertently discovered that Wicca makes things worse, but won't ever admit it as such.
In Teen Witch she says "A lot of people tell me how bad their lives have gotten after casting a spell and tell me they won't do Witchcraft anymore. I tell them their lives would have been much worse for not having cast the spell".

Gee Silver, you would think a lot of people would be saying things like "Hey, Silver Ravenwolf, my life has improved tremendously with Wicca!" if Wicca is as great as they claim. Instead it makes lives much worse, and even Silver Ravenwolf admits she hears this a lot!!!

Why? Because sometimes, things are just as you think they are. Most average people will tell you the occult deals with black magic and demons, and demons are evil beings who wish us harm. All it will do is bring bad luck into your life, and re-read the lives of famous occultist's link before you doubt this.

None of the people who have answered your question claiming to know how can make it work either, Don't delude yourself. It's an incredible waste of time and money, and it's spiritual poison.

I wasted a good chunk of my life in the occult. Save yourself the time. It doesn't work!

It is a life-long learning curve I'm afraid. We are always learning new things and religion should never be rushed.

I am an eclectic Witch with Wiccan 'leanings', as I call it, and I have been practicing for over ten years and still don't know all there is to know. It is simply impossible.

Keep at it. I am solitary and know how frustrating it can be.

Try sticking to books that lay out the basics, but try to stear clear of $ilver Ravenfraud until you have a good basis of knowledge, as her books contain lots of biased info aimed at teenagers, but there is some good info as well. It takes wisdom to be able to sift through the cr*p!

Scott Cunningham is a brilliant start for solitary Wicca, as is Marie Bruce, but she focuses more on spells than actual Wicca.

The Wicca Bible by Ann-Marie Gallagher is a good basics book, and The Complete Idiots Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft is also a good basics guide, and is written in a less patronising way compared with The Dummies version.

I do not fully understand your difficulty. What were you expecting to have achieved? Wicca, like many Pagan paths, is a way of life not a progression of tests and levels of power. I suspect like many others you have unrealistic expectations concerning what you would be able to do as a witch. We can only do what is permissible in Nature - not flying, throwing fireballs or lighting candles with our minds etc. Take a step back and think about what you want from the Craft. Read and study all you can. Seek a teacher with some common sense and though your mind should be open, it should also be discerning. That is, you should not accept all the crap you are likely to hear. And please, for your own sake, learn to use proper English when you talk to others or no-one will take you seriously.

Blessed be

This is a growing process. You must learn to crawl before you can walk right? How long it takes is up to you too but I'd say ask a mentor. I joined a few groups in yahoo groups that were very helpful as well. Just go to yahoo groups, type in "Wicca" and see what it brings up. There are so many other resources too. Have you tried the library? Hope this helped some. Good luck to you.

I've been at it for a few years now myself and still have not learned all that there is to know.

Don't listen to these uneducated twits who are telling you Wicca is Evil! Any religion can be evil in the wrong hands.... Wicca is a beautiful path and full of incredible lessons.

Find yourself a coven or a mentor. That is the best way to learn. That is why Christians have churches.

I've started a group for mentor connections. Maybe this will help.

1) Do you have a teacher? Do you any idea of 'how far along' you are "supposed" to be, and if so, have you asked your teacher why you aren't there yet?
2) how often do you participate in rituals? If you are not involved in each of the 8 sabbats for at least one year in a row, then your growth and learning will be haphazard at best.
3) Do you have your own tools yet? Have you done any solitary rituals? How often do you do spellwork? How often do you meditate? How often do you ground and center?

Write down the answers to these questions, and the answer to your question should then become obvious. If it is not, it may be time for an initiation....if you're a solitary and you need to know how to do that, feel free to e-mail me that question privately.

Honey, I don't know how far with what you think you should be! I am Pect-Witan (Hedge Witch, not Wiccan), a solitary and have been practicing for 40 years. I still have a long way to go. Maybe I will get it all down in my next life! This is not a path where you will just know it all. Are you keeping your Book of Shadows? Have you written in it what you want to accomplish & by when? And are they realistic goals? Concentrate on one thing at a time and things will go smoother for you.
On a lighter note: I did not put a spell on my cat, barking is her idea, not mine! I think she just likes to freak people out.
Sorry, I know that last statement makes me sound like a looney. But I have had other witches ask me.

sure, does anyone offer anything like a moon meet in or around your area? this can be a wonderful and gentle way to get to know other people (usually woman) who have a similar calling as you do. also you could read such material as "the solitary witch" and others. might I suggest joining a book club such as "one spirit." I could also suggest, if you have not already done so, learning about something that might interest you such as crystals and stones and how they can play a part in the wiccan lifestyle. You might want to get a book on candle magic or pendulum dowsing... or learn all of the phases of the moon, the wiccan holidays, and so on. There is so much to learn. I am an intuitive reader, I am also a dream interpreter and reiki practitioner. I consider myself a wiccan but do not go to all of the meetings. I do energize my crystals by moonlight and so on...but there are many different ways to practice wicca, you just need to find your niche..........are you a healer? take a reiki level 1 class, interested in intuition and helping others with your gift? good luck with finding your way

I'm curious to know how you would measure "getting far." It's pretty subjective, after all.

Ways to find classes and meet other Wiccans include finding your local metaphysical store (sometimes in the phone book under Book Store, New Age) and chatting with the clerks there, or checking out their bulletin board. If there's a Unitarian Universalist church in your area, you may also check their website to see if they have CUUPS meetings (Covenant of Unitarian Univeralist Pagans) -- often they have open circles for the esbats or sabbats, and it's not as scary to go to a church as to immediately try to find a coven to join.

Good luck!

if you are doing it on your own it can be frustrating but keep going it is a slow process, but have a good look at yourself i think you will be suprised at just how much the way you see the world has changed, and this is alot more important than doing spells and magic and stuff. Inner change and enlightenment are nessesary on this path and a precursor to anything else unfortunatly that is going to take time. Asking for help and finding others to talk with is a good idea, the road won't seem quite so lonely then and you will have a sounding board for results
