i love graphics, i use photoshop alot but mainly 3d animation maya. so i need something not too pricy but offers fast high power rendering. i recently bought nvidia 7600gs 256mb but i took it back as was faulty, a friend tells me that was probably the best one to go for. but are ati radeons better and anyone know where i can get a decent 512mb either nvidia or radeon for £100 ish???

At the moment your best bet would be an NVIDIA 7900 GT/GTO/GTX

May be slightly more then 100$ GBP,
At the current time I would not get anything under NVIDIA 7800 GTX
as anything less will be redundant in 3 months.

Fast high power rendering is expensive, there is no way around that. In addition, rendering speed is significantly impacted by the processor, so you would probably need a new processor. For the money you are talking about, that card is about the best you can do, but you are not going to get fast high power rendering for that kind of money, not even close.

If you mainly use Maya then you need to waste the money to get your high performance. You should look into workstation cards like the ATI fire gl or the Nvidia Quattro.

Big $$$$ = Big performance.

Go for the 8800 series that's recently launched by Nvidia.
