According to the Gnostics and the Islamic faithful...Jesus was not killed on the cross...it was but a likeness of him that God tricked everyone into seeing.

The Bible doesn't measure time the same way as 21st century American hotels. It says he rose "on the third day." Died Friday, rose Sunday- the third day.
There are places where it refers to Jesus being in the tomb for three days, and they mean it in that sense: parts of three days.
As an aside: to worry about how the days are computed is to miss the forest for the trees. Jesus rose from the dead. Either one believes that or not. It's a matter of faith. I'm not too hung up on how they numbered days. :)
Here's the deal: if the Bible was untrue, and was simply "made up," and this was actually a contradiction, the authors probably would not have made it up with a glaring mistake.

The bible refers to the day he died
Friday was the first day of his death,
Saturday the second
Sunday was the last and the day he resurrected. But since he spent part of it dead, they refer to it has a third day....inspite of the fact that he ressurected early morning.
And His body was in that tomb on Friday, because of the Sabath, and Mary Magdalene and Miriam were unable to go to his tomb until Sunday because of the sabath. And I'm guessing they may have gone around seven am, as daylight was breaking thru...
Hope it helps.

Some good answers...the Bible alludes that He was in the tomb during some or all of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It doesn't insist that He was in the tomb for 72 hours.

The Jews did not count "parts" of days, Friday was one day, Saturday was one day, Sunday was one day.
Others have said Jesus was crucified on Wednesday.
Does it matter though? If someone rose from the dead does it matter if it took him 3 days or 2 and a half days?

Mathematics -science in general- and Christianity don't agree all the time, but you are right if it was a hotel He would have paid for 2 nights, not 3.

Jesus was a magician and took a drink from his wife, Mary Magdalen, that put him in a suspended state of animation - similar to a plant concoction used by voodoo priests- which mimicked death. Remember, Jesus was intimately aware of the living, dying, resurrected hero myth of every cult ever created by the minds of men. So, as the disciples placed him in his tomb, Jesus was given an antidote and walked out on his own two feet about 2 hours later. I don't know what happened to him afterward ... he seems to have disappeared.

I think someone owes Isa ben Josef a refund! But just try getting customer service to pick up in a Jerusalem hotel.
