Futurama is for adults really, but it is also fine for older children as they will get what they get from it (boy in the future has a robot for a mate).

You haven't said how old he is - but provided that he is older than about 8 or 9 it should be okay. The more adult themes and ideas will probably just go over his head for now. It is not advocating violence, weapons, misogyny or sex (apart from Zap Brannigan, and he is, hilariously, pathetic). Even the episode where Fry sleeps with his grandmother is done carefully - and the grandmother instantly reverts to 'granny' mode.

The show does promote friendship, a caring attitude, problem solving, thoughts about the future of the planet and shows up all the silly little foibles that any mother would want her son to avoid.

Your mother will read things into the show that your brother will most likely miss as he lacks the experience and understanding.

Bender IS rude and obnoxious most of the time... and he is always in trouble for it, one way or another. Unlike 'Jerry', in Tom & Jerry, Bender hardly ever wins entirely. There is usually some sense of him learning from his mistakes. Fry is lazy and feckless and never gets anywhere with anyone, but he has a good heart (like the episode where he finds his lucky four leaf clover, or the one with the fossilised dog). And the episode where Bender meets god is a great antidote to all the times that the devil interferes....

All in all it has so many great ideas that your mom could let your brother see at least SOME episodes... it will help to develop his creative imagination, sense of humour and understanding of other people.

HOWEVER you MUST understand that this is an issue between your mom and him. Abd that her word is final in all of this. If you get too involved it could ruin your own relationship with her.

So maybe YOU could also help by explaining some of this to your little brother too.

No it is not for Kids. I liked it since it premiered when I was around 12. However I did not start watching it till I was older and more discerning. Discernment is important. Shows like "American Dad" and "Family Guy" are so much worse now days. I enjoy it but would not let my neice or nephew watch till they were in there teens. There is a lot of questionable content. Your mum is good to be concerned. My Mum said I could not watch Beast Wars when I was younger I HATED it. But you know what I am an adult now so if I want I can now and I realsie it was not that big a deal. Considering the vast amount of TV on and the fact that there are allot of better things to do She should think about it watch a few episodes. If she says no then that is that.

Not really. My 6 year old cousin watches it, but he doesn't get half the references, which i do. I personally wouldn't let my children watch it without explaining that some of the things in futurama are not real and not to say some of the things at school, such as "bite my shiny metal ***!" I think in the end that the final decison does lie with the parent, and if they don't want there children to watch it until they are older, thats there decsion. Besides, even though it is a cartoon, would you let your young child watch South Park, and even Family Guy would you?

I am 27 and my son is 8 and we both love it, I actually think I like it better than the simpsons.
I dont see why it is inappropriate for children it does have some adult humour in there like the simpsons does but the kids dont really get that anyway.
tell your mam to let him watch it, its harmless and he will grow out of wanting to be a robot soon lol.

It is not designed for kids, it's not a kid's show. Bender the robot smokes, drinks neat spirits and shouts "Bite my shiny metal *ss". He is not designed to be a good role model, he is designed to be humorous to adults.
Just because a show is animated does not make it a show for children, in Amsterdam a friend of mine bought a lot of animated hardcore sex film - I would never let my kids see them!
Futurama is a great show but I would certainly not encourage children under about 12 to watch it. Teenagers and adults should be encouraged to view it as often as possible as it is very funny.

nothing wrong with futurama at all and i love it! i don't see why kids can't watch it even though there are a lot of jokes that they probably won't get. it is a cartoon after all so i'm not surprised that they want to watch it!
also, what's wrong with him wanting to be a bending robot? he'll grow out of it soon enough and will probably want to be something else next week! kids think they want to be all sorts of things all the time - perfectly normal if you ask me :)

Yes & no (much like the Simpsons)

Kids can watch it & enjoy it BUT you will get more out of it if you are an adult, especally if you are a sci-fi fan.

There are so many references to Sci-fi old programmes & History in general EG the Richard Nixon Jokes / Loads of Star Trek references (Zap is of course Captain Kirk) etc etc.

Its probally a good cartoon for kids that are about to enter their teens. But due to its slight swearing *not "no swearing"* and its slight sexual content *theres a story about Fry sleeping with his own grandmother for christ's sake*. It shouldnt be one for kids that are younger. I mean, since it's a cartoon. Its not for ALL ages. Heck, in the beginning. Cartoons were meant for adults.

Your kid brother may have chosen Bender as the wrong role model. But I think he might grow out of it. Hopefully that is.
