Sorry Liz, but I don't think you have your understanding of US history quite right.
The United States did not lose Vietnam, this is a misconception. From a military standpoint the US won every battle and the war in Vietnam. The Communist have said that when the US started to pull out they were actually on the verge of complete collapse. The Vietnam War was lost at home by political and public opinion.
The US and many other UN nations went into Somalia in 1991 as part of Operation Restore Hope. The goals there were not actually military but the armed forces were there to be part of a 'Peacekeeping Force' that ensured that humanitarian aid got to the Somali people and that the Warlords there did not remain in control. After suffering a relatively low amount of casualties the United States pulled out of Somalia. This was because of low public opinion of the conflict and a poor mandate provided to the US Forces by the UN.
Afghanistan and Iraq are still ongoing conflicts so one can hardly declare defeat. While the verdict is still out in Iraq, in Afghanistan the Taliban are a completely defeated force with loosely organised elements still giving battle.
The current airstrikes in Somalia are designed to be surgical strikes to kill known terrorists. In this, from what has been reported, the strikes have been a complete success with no US casualties.
Any nation, including all of the current nations that continue to develop and host nuclear weapon should be considered a threat. This whole concept is what kept the cold war 'cold'. If Iran continues to pursue, develop and keep nuclear weapons in a nation where religious fanaticism continues to roost and hold sway then other world nations have a debt to the rest of the global community to neuter such a nation's nuclear ability.

It is funny. The above people are just avoiding the issue and harping on vietnam. So what. The UN opposed the invasion of Iraq but the USA went ahead. And it is not a threat? The fact that they did not lose makes them an even bigger threat to the world. Americans can continue deceiving themselves that they are the bastion of righteousness in this evil world while everyone else are pissed at them.
ADDED: So what if Iran has nuclear weapons or is going to procure nuclear weapons. The USA has thousands of them. Pot calling the kettle black.

We were asked by the UN and France to enter Vietnam a war we would have won if not for the Liberals at home pulling the rug out and the contraints of not getting China mad.
Afghanistan was a direct threat due to Al qiada Having it's base there. In Iraq 1 and 2 It was a UN war. Not a US war
The Somalian Government and the UN asked us to support the troops fighting Alqiada in Souther Somalia.

Iran is a threat. This threat could have been alleviated if [then] President Carter had issued an ultimatum to Iran. He didn't so now we have a regime that trains and supports [recognized] terrorists organizations and does not fear the US or the UN.

US has never been defeated militarily if you look at wars were it appears we have lost it was usually due to politicians, not by the enemy.
Unfortunately there is a sector of our society that consist of appeasers, losers and defeatist that seems for some reason to gravitate towards the democratic party if you observe their actions today they are in full defeat mode again just like in the past.

Hey idiot! Iran is a threat, you would have to be brain dead to allow the Iranian ayatollah to have a nuclear weapon and the vast majority of the world governments agree and for your information we did not lose one battle in Vietnam, we retreated because the same yellow cowards you see protesting this war were to morally bankrupt to stand up to communism..ah yes what a lovely concept that was Stalin and Mao were monsters thet destroyed or repressed their own people.

No i'm not laughing. IRAN. IS. A THREAT. Whatever comparisons you make are way off mark. I don't want some looney bin president with a nuke arsenal; nor do i need to see men-in-robes walking around with AKs.
