Yes it is illegal. Very very illegal.
Racism, dontcha just hate it.
The BNP rears its ugly head on YA yet again.

PS Did you know that the English, as a race or whatever, are a mixture of Italians (from the Roman invasions), French (from the Norman invasion), Angles and Saxons (from mainland Europe) as well as countless other places? There is no such thing as thoroughbred English.

Just because you are a minority does that make you any less unskilled or educated than a Thoroughbred English person?

I am a minority and I have been born and bread educated here. So i am British. I am just a good employee as any thorough bread English Person and am also multilingual - i speak four languages as well English. A service I would provide without a second thought where I work but which happens to cost some companies a fortune.

Will you want customers for your business that are from minority backgrounds? If so what if they don't speak English that well but you could make a profit from them are you going to turn them away because you only want thoroughbred English customers?

OK - employ small-minded, hard-of-thinking racists like yourself. And you should read more - there's no such thing as thoroughbred English, and hasn't been since around 200 A.D.

It is illegal, and you need to give opportunities to the mentally disabled too - sounds like the director of the company fits the bill.

It's illegal.

on the general point.....
we are all minorities to some degree or another. race, religion & sexual orientation are the big ones, but how about if you dont want to employ 'amnesty' supporters..... or members of the labour party...... or essex girls. where do you draw the line?

If you only have a small workforce, you'd probably get away with it, as long as you were tactful and crafty enough. But you'd be better of just telling people at the outset, that you are a racist bigot and that means more to you than running a sucessfull company

it is illegal in the united states, i'm not sure about where you live, though. however, it probably will be harmful to your company, as there is a chance you will overlook a great worker or a person with tremendous potential simply because they are a minority. i don't understand...why in the world would you want to risk the chance of your company earning more, or becoming better overall?

as i'm fourteen, i wouldn't take my advice TOO seriously. however, i think it's common sense...don't need a major in anything to see that the decision to employ only one group of people is-- sorry for my bluntness-- stupid.

also, i would not want to support your company if you decided to employ only one group of people. that would be a company owned by a racist person, by definition, and i do not want to contribute to the growth of such a company.

Yes, but to be honest if your a small company (say 10 people) then I don't think anyone will notice unless you make it very obvious like 10 minorities show up and 1 white guy to be hired, yet you hire the white guy with a high school diploma over the 10 minorities that had a doctorate.

Now with that said, I have seen and know a few very educated minoritie people. So it's not always a bad thing, they can bring a new and fresh outlook to the company and may be far more educated.

Of course it's illegal and for good reason too. Britain is and always has been an island nation populated by a culturally diverse group of people who have been arriving here from all over the world for centuries. I presume that the underlying message meant by 'thoroughbred English' is white? Charmless racist.

In some places, definite. And it shoudl not take position. Discrimination is undesirable, no count number number the position, or for what causes. As said elsewhere, the perfect human being ought to get the job, be they white, black, male, lady, gay, immediately or in spite of. effectual discrimination would have a good motive in the back of it, yet as all it does it to discriminate back, it continues to be incorrect. it isn't the thanks to make society better integrated for all. As for some communities sticking to their own, that takes position in all factors of society. yet not each and every human being from an ethnic minority does that. lots do blend. Too many although opt for now to not, and that back is misguided.

Hi Damien,

As long as you don't make it obvious then you won't have a problem. Give rejected applicants any excuse as long as it is not because of their ethnic origin. Normally you could use

"An applicant more suited to the position has been selected."

This is the standard line because it does not imply discrimination on any grounds.

My hubby had his own firm and never employed women or ethnics without any problems at all.

Hope this helps.
