That pattern is neatly symmetrical (often the second hand is pointing to 6 as well) and the watchmaker's logo is not obscured.

Because it's the most aesthetically pleasing placement, I'd say. I don't know about the digital ones though. As a side point, did you know that if you look at the clock at a time when the numbers are all the same ( eg 2:22) it means someone is thinking fondly of you? Doesn;t that make you feel all warm and fuzzy?
Actually, maybe that's the Bacardi...
