so-called medical tourism is on the rise throughout the world. probably a good thing for those who have the money, but for poor people it offers no help at all. in brazil, for example, heart by-pass surgery is about 60 percent cheaper than in the u.s. and, significantly, many of the surgeons have been trained in the u.s. or europe.
