Easy: Think of gravity. Ever rode your bike to the top of a hill? When it was time to go down that hill you didn't have to do any work because gravity pushed you along. In that sense, things get easy.
Worse: Think of a graph. Stock market graph I suppose. When the lines start going up, it's perfectly fine. However when that line starts going down, downhill that is, it's getting bad. Less money is never good.

I'm sure down hill is always the easiest way but sometimes not the best way. When something is going downhill it is usually refering to something going bad but when your on the downhill side of your work it means the hard part is over.

Wun more oddity of the Englisch language.
Try pronouncing these words and then explain why they are pronounced so differently but spelled so much alike.
Though = "tho"
Through = "threw"
Thought = "thawt"
Why does the sound of "ough" change, and of the "th" ?
Englisch iz moast konfuzing.
(Unless you grow up in America)
