I don't know if that's possible. Membership is difficult to come by, standards in the EU of course would have to be met by India, such as capital punishment, freedoms, etc. Which I don't think India and for that matter many countries inthe world have met. Also by letting Indian in to the EU the EU would increase it's population almost 2 folds, something that'll greatly change the economy of all countries involved.

Why would India want to join EU? If it's for trade there is the loosely organized WTO, is it for political reasons? There is the British Commonwealth. I see no reason why India would want to join the EU, and why the EU would accept India as a member. Morocco has a better chance at becoming a member of the E.U.

The EU is for European countries exclusively, and why India would want to join that mess would be beyond me.
India should work with Japan, China, South Korea, and other stable Asian countries to work towards improving the standard of living for Asians. As well as working toward containing trouble spots like North Korea.

India has a booming economy and will become a very major player in the world in 10 years. You will benefit more by being independent from any international or political-bloc. Your nation is robust. Your currency is strengthening on the world market. Why would you want to scrap all that for the sake of joining the EU?

It’s an intriguing idea and shows that you’re thinking ‘outside the box’, however, I don’t know why India would want to hitch its wagon to the funeral train which is Europe’s stagnant economic engine. India’s vibrant GDP growth has been 2-3 times that of Europe over the last several years. What India should do is follow China’s example of establishing free trade agreements with its regional neighbors as well as a chance for better relations with the U.S. and western nations looking for a strategic partner in the war on terror and as an economic power to balance China’s growing influence in and unknown agenda for Asia. .

Although not quite as robust as China economically, India has two main advantages over its giant eastern neighbor. India is the world’s largest democracy and as such has political stability and little to no potential grounds for conflict with the West. China, while relatively stable has lots of trust issues with the West and still hasn’t significantly reformed its Marxist political system. China’s potential for conflict with the U.S. or E.U. due to its secretive and non-transparent decision-making processes, while slight, still exists. India should be prepared to ‘take up the slack’ in the event of a political fallout between China and the West.

Second, India is the world’s largest “English-speaking” country. This has been an enormous advantage for India in the development of it fast growing service sector and computer software industry. India has an ample supply of educated, fluent English speakers that are filling an important niche in the high tech sector and financial service sectors for Western companies in search of customer service agents and computer software engineers. These provide India numerous high-paying white collar jobs that other Asian nations can only dream about. India should continue to capitalize on these two strategic factors and forgot about E.U. membership.

No India is an emerging economic force that can only thrive better in the Asian region. It should consolidate the gains made in the past 2 decades to position itself as a giant in the Asian region. It will do much better outside the bureaucratic principles of the EU.
