There was a vase with the viper in it, all I could see was its head and the tongue spitting at me. Then I knocked the vase over and the snake escaped. I couldn't find it and knew if it bit me I would be dead. I can't figure it out.

The vase is a subconcious kitaic symbol for a female. Breaking the vase would mean something to you metaphorically. The snake is an obvious male fertiity symbol, and it is poisonous. To me the vase and a snake represent a relationship that has"shattered". Both parties are hurt. The male seems to be reacting to the female breaking up. But remember this you were the one to knock over the vase.

Well in Indian folklore it is believed that snakes appearing in your dreams mean you have enemies. I'd just be careful and take better note of your surrounding and people in them.
Also dreams are considered as the brains way of reviewing day to day events...did you perhaps see a snake or watch or read something involving snakes ??...could be that simple.

A snake is always bad. You have something bad going on in your life that you may not be aware of,like someone out to decieve you mainly. Or you might be doing something bad that your self consience is telling you not to do.
