Does anyone know why when you look at Google Earth some areas are so clear you can see the cars in the streets and driveways but other towns and even a city as big as Brighton are just a blur?

I doubt it has anything to do with importance as I would have thought a city more important athan some of the smaller towns?

It depends purely on the quality of the image taken by the satellite (or plane). There's no releationship to "importance".

Interestingly if you look at Microsoft's equivalent to Google earth (http://local.live.com), often the areas that are blurry on Google Earcth are very clear on Microsoft's. Equally some areas that are very clear on Google Earth are blurry on MS.

(Microsoft's equivalent is all web based - you don't need to install software on your computer like you do with Google Earth).

It has to do with when the pictures were taken and with what type of satellite.

Generally, if you can see cars very clearly then the pictures were taken by planes with cameras.
