Yes you can, the only difference is that your 4x slot will be a little slower than the 16x slots are.

BTW you can prolly buy a new mother board at this site for under $100 with a pentuim 4, with 16 pci express


if its a geforce your looking for I might recommend www.tigerdirect.com they will give you a detailed list of the requirements, for example a 256 geforce usually requires a 350 watt power supply (the box that plugs into wall) you can check this by opening up your tower.. and looking at the tag, it will say total output

Also check the clock tick rate, and core memory

Make sure it has HDR and Shader enable if your a big gamer such as Wow Or A counter Strike Play : Source and or HL2

Every video card I've seen are for PCI-Ex16 slots, so, no way.
