Hardwood floors. They not only increase the value of your home but are also better in terms of health reasons as they do not accumulate as much dirt, dust and molds as a carpet would and are much easier to clean.

I prefer Wooden floors or tiles to carpet,but if you have a two storey house I think that you need carpet on the second floor,as with just wooden floors you can hear every thing,and with kids running around it can get very noisy where you feel like your going mad.
