When I was a little girl, people used to tease my southern accent, but I'd like to relocate to the North and fear I won't be accepted and that people might think I'm taking their jobs away.

I live up north and dont see why you wont be accepted. You may be teased a little about your accent but in fun not in malice. I know a few happy Southerners that live here. Come on up !!

'Leeds mike' is correct, the' folk up North ' are friendly, much more so than Londoners, I've worked all over the North of England (on contracts) and found fellow contractors don't generally get on with those fellers working out of the London area, its mainly due to the horrible 'Cockney' type accent, and the way they think (and frequently say) "20 miles out of London and your in no mans land".
However as a female you wont have an of those problems, regardless of you accent! There are just a few things you will have to bear in mind, like taking your wooden clogs with you and probably the most painful bit is standing your round at the bar!
As a female you'll have no trouble at all, good luck!

I've lived and worked in both the north and the south and to be honest I've found the north to be far more welcoming and friendly.

when i moved to bristol i found it incredibly hard. I'm originally from east dulwich and still have a strong accent.

People here are very clicky, i briefly worked in one of our local shops and i walked into another shop just to hear one of the people i worked with say "bloomin londoners coming here taking all our jobs" i've been here 9 years and they still havent accepted me - but it's up to them.

do it if you need to-but you need a strong stomach.
