Is it the seventh river from one point to annother? If so, where are rivers one to six? Does the word "Severn" have another meaning? Was it named after Mr & Mrs Severn who first fell in it? Seriously, where does the name come from?

According to some sources, the name "Severn" is derived from the name Sabrina or (Hafren), based on the mythical story of the drowning of a nymph in the river. Sabrina is also the goddess of the River Severn in Brythonic mythology. The story of Sabrina is featured in Milton's Comus. There is a statue of 'Sabrina' in the Dingle Gardens at the Quarry, Shrewsbury.

As the Severn becomes tidal the associated deity changes to Noadu, who (Romanized as Nodens) is represented mounted on a seahorse, riding on the crest of the Severn bore.

If it were the 7th river...its name would be seven....but its name is severn, so no to your first hypothesis.....and as for the choice of name being Severn, you could ask the same of any river...the thames, the mississippi, the nile....this has to be the poorest question ever asked! Well, at least your not asking the most irratating question which is "does he fancy me or not?" asked by so many women.....when, after reading the case of evidence for and against their concern it is so obvious he does or doesn't.
