today he brushed my shoulder as he went out the door.

Your question makes no sense. We all need food and shelter. Either you make it yourself (that takes work) or you must find someone who will give you food and shelter. Or they can give you things that you can trade for food and shelter but usually you have to earn it. Perhaps you clean their house or plow their field. Money is just a medium to get us what we need. When you have extra money you can buy things you don't need but only want.

yourself and family like they did before money the way it should be barter and trade I farm you build we trade food for furniture you know ,it would be alot more peaceful and think who is gonna want to rob and kill ?money makes people do bad things but then again anything that one person has that someone who doesn't have it wants bad things can happen.

I would trade services for goods. Like build something for food not a bad system but not very equitable.
