Although all tampons go through batch testing to prevent excessive fibre loss all commercial or organic tampons will leave fibres within the vagina, more so with length-ways expanding tampons as the way in which these are made result in more edges of the fleece used being exposed on the outside of the tampon.
Tampons will always significantly increase your risk of TSS and vaginal infections, as well as other health related problems associated with tampons, when there is fibre loss, specifically extensive fibre loss as you are describing then yes it is a real issue you have to consider. Tampons are not very hygienic, increasing risk of infections and TSS because it prevents normal vaginal cleaning thus reducing the vaginas natural defences, absorbs vaginal fluids resulting in vaginal splitting, and give bacteria a place to multiply which is amplified the longer the tampon is left within the body, when you have fibre loss it means that those bacteria within the fibres are left within the body for even longer lengths of time. Those risks are also amplified again with commercial tampons such as O.B. brand as these use synthetic materials that increase absorbency and increase bacterial growth, the chemicals used to treat the tampons also affect normal vaginal pH that in turn affects normal vaginal flora.
I would highly suggest you switch to a safer brand if not option, ideally it is best if you do not use tampons at all instead switching to a safe option such as pads or menstrual cups like Divacup or Instead, if you insist on staying with tampons then choose a safer type of tampon such as sponge tampons or organic tampons like Natracare – as well as avoiding this problem they are also much safer than commercial tampons like O.B. in general. This is your health, it can be fatal, please consider at least switching to a another brand, if not another type of tampon or avoid tampons all together.

Yes it could cause TSS which can be fatal. You need to see a doctor ASAP. Do not douche, that only pushes bacteria into your vagina. This is not normal. Perhaps the tampons are very old or have been damaged. Keep the packaging you may also want to contact the company at a later date. Please take this seriouslly TSS kills people.

I don't know. I am having the same problem right now also. Except I've got a ball of toilet paper stuck in there (I used it as a tampon, had it in there and some how went up). I can't get it out. I don't think it will cause TSS.

This happened to me when i used tampax tampons ,i switched to beyond tampons and now i have no issues, but you might want to douche to get the pieces out ,but thats not really good to do , so you can just wet your finger and get them out that way, or just go to the doc.If the pieces stay inside of you, bacteria can develop and cause major problems, and youll start to smell bad, and get cramps, ect. its not fun. switch brands.

sweety i think you should stop using tampons immediately untill you speak to your doctor.
not trying to scare you but people die from TSS and u dont want to mess around here. i would also switch brands of tampons if ur doc says u can still use them.

i would call your gyno. that can't be healthy. You should also call O.B's customer service maybe they had a re-call on tampons. Or maybe they can re-imburse you for the tampons and maybe the doc bill.

I would check with your gynecologist if I were you, it could be serious if it keeps happening. In the meantime, I would switch brands. Your current brand may not be reacting well with your body.
