Definitely look into a Guinea Pig. I have both hamsters and guinea pigs, and both fit that furry cute mold. But their personalities are very different! Guinea pigs almost never bite because they are naturally afraid of everything! But once they learn that you are friendly they warm up very quickly, doing funny things such as "popcorning" (where they kind jump and twitch uncontrollably), making noises to communicate with you, plus they are very social animals so once they get used to the environment they will absolutely love your company and play time.
If cute, furry, and FRIENDLY is what you are looking for, guinea pigs are a great choice!
Fish a nice but keep in mind you can't interact with them the same way as a hamster, dog or guinea pig.
Cats can be great pets but keep in mind that they can be in their own world sometimes and may ignore you even if you want to play with them.
But are positives and negatives to every pet, but as both a hamster and guinea pig owner, I can personally say that guinea pigs are a great fit for a hamster owner who likes cute, furry, little critters without all of the biting!

Fish are nice, but aquariums do require maintenance and you may not have time, since you are in school. Fish are great projects because there are so many varieties you can buy.
How about a chinchilla? These are very entertaining little animals that live in cages, but like to come out and run around in a secure area. They have beautiful fur -- the cost is about $100 but you can look in Pets for Sale places on the Internet and sometimes people will sell a chinchilla and cage for $50-100.
They don't require a lot of special care and are OK without another chinchilla for company.
A cat might also be perfect for you. Shelters are full of kitties waiting for nice homes. They do not require another cat for company, they sleep a lot and most love attention. They would require a litter box, which you've said is OK with you. Adoption fees are usually low. Also, check in newspapers and bulletin boards in pet shops and grocery stores. A lot of times, people will have kittens to give away.

A cat maybe? Besides the usual feed/water/change the litter box...they take care of themselves. They don't smell and they keep themselves clean. I'm an animal lover too, and wise choice on the Husky. They are simply beautiful, but the hardest breed to maintenance.
Whatever you choose- Good luck!

Maybe a little rabbit. They can be cuddley too, and can be trained to use a litter box like a cat. Different types of rabbits can stay about the size of a med cat, or be as large as a mid-sized smallish dog. *does that make sense? LOL*
Rabbits are usually very quiet. They don't make noise unless they are really scared or in discomfort. They come in so many different colors its about your choice.

Fish: Just clean the tank. Feed the fish. Etc...
Hermit crab:Give it food. Clean the tank. Change the water in the pool. Etc...
I am a 4th grader so all I have is a hermit crab. I use to have hamsters but it both died so I have a hermit crab. I don't think hermit crabs bite. When I first got my hermit crabs it didn't bite me. It was just crawling on my hand and it tickles!!

Why not a lizard? It would be a great conversation starter and you would have the opportunity to learn about this somewhat unsual pet. Lizards are not hard to care for, but do need care, yet not on the level of a dog or cat.

If you have to ask others what their opinions are what would be a good pet for you, I don't believe you are ready to take one on. It's very understandable that you love animals, but until you decide what you want, you shouldn't get one.

Fish are easy to take care of and nice to watch. If your family isn't afraid of snakes, you might want to look into a corn or king snake. They don't get very big, and I've heard they don't bite. I had two garter snakes when I was about your age, and they never bit me.

Cats eat a lot (most at least) and like attention. Also leave lots of fur/hair around the house. If you're willing to bear all that, go for a cat.
A goldfish is safe, not hard to take care of if you stick to the rules. However, I personally find it boring to watch them, and I hate it when they eat their poo.
