The heaviest bell in the world is the Tsar Kolokol, cast on 25th Nov 1735 in Moscow. It weighs 196 tonnes (193 tons), measures 5.9m (19ft 4½in) diameter and 5.87m (19ft 3in high), and its greatest thickness is 60cm (24in). The bell is cracked, and a fragment, weighing about 11 tonnes was broken from it. The bell has stood, unrung, on a platform in the Kremlin in Moscow since 1836.
The heaviest bell in use is the Mingun bell, weighing 55,555viss or 90.52 tons with a diameter of 5.09m (16ft 8½in) at the lip, in Mandalay, Burma, which is struck by a teak boom from the outside. It was cast at Mingun late in the reign of King Bodawpaya (1782-1819). The heaviest swinging bell in the world is the Petersglocke in the south-west tower of Cologne Cathedral, West Germany, cast in 1923 with a diameter of 3.40m (11ft 1¾in) weighing 25.4 tonnes (25.0 tons).
